Can I Use Invisalign If I Have a Dental Implant?

You had never expected to find yourself dealing with the insecurities of missing teeth; however, despite your best efforts, you developed a gap in your smile. To fill the missing space, you have made the decision to use a dental implant. That is great! Now, you have a complete smile to improve your quality of life and oral health. While you are happy that there is no longer a missing tooth, you still are not satisfied with your appearance. You have alignment issues that are hurting your self-esteem. To get a beautiful smile, you want to use Invisalign in Ann Arbor, but can you use the clear aligners with a dental implant?

Invisalign for a Straight Smile

When it comes to orthodontic treatments, Invisalign has quickly become the preferred choice. No brackets or wires are used to move your teeth into their correct positions. Instead, clear plastic aligners are used. This provides a nearly invisible treatment while also giving you the results you want in about 12 months.

Due to the various benefits they offer, they are the ideal choice for teens and adults who want a straight smile; however, you have a dental implant. That does not mean that you are not a candidate for Invisalign.

Although every case is different, the aligners can be used on those who have had restorative procedures, including bridges, crowns, and dental implants.

Invisalign and Dental Implants

It is recommended that you undergo orthodontic treatment with your dentist in Ann Arbor prior to placing your dental implant. Since the implant post is surgically placed into your jawbone, it cannot be moved because it will be fixed to the bone. As a result, it is best to get treatment prior to replacing the tooth.

If your dental implant is already in place, you can still benefit from Invisalign, but your treatment will be a little more complex. The prosthetic tooth cannot be moved; however, your natural teeth can be put in their ideal positions. The best candidates for Invisalign with dental implants are those who have replaced teeth in the back of their mouths or those who do not need to align the tooth that has been replaced.

Although Invisalign can be used for those who have a dental implant, every case is different. Your dentist will need to determine if the clear aligners are the right solution for you.
