Neuromuscular Dentistry
If you experience neck pain, tingling in your extremities, headaches, migraines, or pain in your jaw, you may suffer from TMJ disorder. Over 10 million Americans live with TMJ dysfunction, which occurs when the temporomandibular joints, or jaw joints, are misaligned. If these joints don’t work properly, surrounding muscles become fatigued, and the associated nerves get irritated, which creates discomfort.
To alleviate your TMJ symptoms and promote whole-mouth harmony, Dr. Olsen will apply the principals of neuromuscular dentistry in constructing a treatment plan. Trained as an LVI-dentist, Dr. Olsen will works to find the root causes of the dysfunction. As a neuromuscular dentist, Dr. Olsen understands the intricate relationship between the joints, muscles, teeth, and nerves in the mouth. These structures must work together for comfortable oral function.
With the assistance of special equipment, including a TENS and K-7, Dr. Olsen will analyze the current status of your jaw joints and figure out their optimal position. To correct the position of your jaw, Dr. Olsen may suggest building up the bite with restorative dentistry, creating an oral appliance to “reprogram” muscles, and/or stress- relief exercises and habit changes. Don’t wait any longer to find migraine treatment and ease TMJ pain.
